Here is what I call a ‘handmade documentary’ on the global New Age Movement—which is to say this video is highly visual in content, with plenty of graphics and titles—but also made by someone on a low budget without a lot of skill.
That someone is obviously myself, who also happens to be a former member of the seminal New Age community of Findhorn in Scotland. After living there during the 1980s, I found Christ and His Church in the late 1990s.
This video, then, is the fruit of over forty years of serious engagement with the New Age movement, first as an active enthusiast, later as a critic. Among my conclusions is that the New Age is hardly the universal spirituality it claims to be, one often said to be ‘embracing all faiths and none’.
Instead, on closer examination, New Age spirituality reveals a highly particular quality, which is strongly indicated by the second part of the title here: Eastern-Occult, Anglo-American. And the rejection of Christianity is marked.
Topics here include the Findhorn community, from which I recently returned from a visit. (There is footage in this video of me at Findhorn last year.)
There is also much on the Eastern Occultism at the origin of New Age Spirituality: Madame Blavatsky and Alice Bailey’s Theosophy. The video further considers A Course in Miracles and such American media stars and politicians as Oprah Winfrey and Marianne Williamson, among others.
This semi-documentary style video is over two hours in length. A great deal of care and thought went into it and I hope its extensive, in-depth nature will prove useful to some folk, both now and in years to come.
If one goes over to YouTube itself, one will find a Table of Contents with timestamps. But here now is a more limited version with many of the major chapter headings.
