Aisle 2—Christ, the Church and the World

Behold I am with you all days, even to the consummation of the world.

We have here a rather eclectic group of books, but mainly ones reflecting the Mystery of Christ in His Church. In the language of Theology, these are largely—if not entirely—to do with Christology and Ecclesiology.

Still, we start with the Bible: we feature the Douay Rheims translation of the Vulgate. Then we have three catechisms, including the wonderful Canon Francis Ripley’s This is the Faith. (Although the simplified American edition in print is not without some problems—see Roger’s review here.)

But for the most part, the books here are ones that cast light—whether in one way or another—on the ongoing Mystery of Our Lord Jesus Christ, particularly as He is present in the Church on Earth. Or the Mystery, one might say in the words of G.K. Chesterton’s Christological masterpiece, of The Everlasting Man.
