In the Day to Day Struggle …

Sacred Heart Cross

Wrought-iron Sacred Heart cross in southern France.

Burst from my heart …

In the day to day struggle to be moral, nothing in all my forty seven years has proved to be more efficacious than the (frequent) reception of the Sacraments.

In the day to day need to bear suffering (and not to deaden it), nothing in all my 47 years has proved to be more helpful or more consoling than the (frequent) reception of the Sacraments.

In the day to day call to open my heart, nothing in all my 47 years has proved to be more piercing than the (frequent) reception of the Sacraments.

(And nothing but nothing in either my cultural or parental upbringing ever provided me the slightest whisper of this astonishing reality).
